Piano Moving Company for Wisconsin Homes, Churches and Schools

Dan The Moving Man moves pianos between homes, churches, schools, studios and storage in Wisconsin. Our movers pad and strap the piano, plan the path through doors and stairs and place it where you want it at the new location.

A piano is one of the heaviest and most awkward items in a home. It is top heavy, it has a delicate finish and it holds thousands of small parts inside. Moving it takes enough movers, the right equipment and a plan before anyone lifts.

We move pianos as a stand-alone job or as part of a full home move. If a piano is going into storage, we can take it straight to our climate-controlled facility.

With 15 years in the moving business, a fleet of 9 to 30 trucks and USDOT 3033053 registration, we are set up for any size move. Seniors and military families get 5% off, and customers moving during cancer treatment get 20% off.

How We Move Your Piano

Step 1: Measure the Route

We ask about the doorways, hallways, stairs and turns at both locations. Tell us the type and approximate size of your piano and the number of steps at each end.

Step 2: Protect the Piano

Our movers close and secure the lid, then wrap the piano in moving pads and strap the pads in place. This protects the finish, the keys and the legs.

Step 3: Protect the Building

Door jamb protectors go on the doorways we use. Floors and railings stay clear so the piano never scrapes a wall or frame.

Step 4: Move and Place

The piano is moved with equipment sized for its weight, loaded and strapped inside the truck, then carried into the new space and set where you want it.

Plan Ahead for a Piano Move

A few details help your piano move go well.

  • Stairs count. Tell us every step at both locations, including porch steps.
  • Clear the path. Move rugs, plants and small furniture out of the route before the movers arrive.
  • Tuning. Pianos usually need tuning after a move because temperature and humidity change. Plan to call your tuner a few weeks after the piano settles.
  • Winter moves. Wisconsin winters bring cold air and icy steps. Keep the steps at both homes clear of ice and snow, and we will pad the piano for the trip.
  • Coverage. Basic released value coverage is $0.60 per pound. For a piano, Full Valuation Coverage is worth a look. List it on the valuation form before your move date.

Moving a Piano as Part of a Home Move

Add the piano to your residential move or long-distance move when you book. We plan the piano into the load and the move-day schedule so it gets the time and movers it needs.

Where We Move Pianos

We move pianos from every office. Homes, churches and schools in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and Menomonie are served from Eau Claire. La Crosse and Onalaska are served from Onalaska. Wausau, Stevens Point and Merrill are served from Kronenwetter, and Rhinelander and nearby lake homes are served from our Northwoods office.

Moving a Piano Within the Same Home

Need the piano moved to another room, or up from the basement? We handle moves inside the same house too. The same planning applies: measure the route, protect the doorways and pad the piano before it moves.
