Parking a Moving Truck on the Street

The City of Eau Claire grants parking waivers for loading and unloading moving vans and trucks. You apply through the city’s Engineering Permitting Portal. If your street has limited parking, apply before move day so the truck can park close to your door.

Winter Alternate Side Parking

From November 1 to May 1, alternate side parking is in effect from midnight to 7 AM. Cars park on the odd-address side on odd dates and the even side on even dates. Downtown also bans parking from 2 AM to 6 AM. We plan winter moves for daytime so the truck is not caught by these rules.

Campus Move Weeks

UW-Eau Claire moves students into the residence halls over a weekend in late August, and most off-campus leases run 12 months. Many traditional residence halls have no elevators. Book early if your move falls in late August or at the end of the spring semester in May.

Third Ward and Randall Park. Older houses, rented homes and small apartment buildings. Expect stairs, narrow doorways and street parking. We take apart larger furniture and use door jamb protectors on older frames.

Water Street. Apartments close to campus, with heavy student turnover. Moves here often fall on the same few days, so the curb fills up fast.

Eastside Hill, Emery Street and historic districts. Older homes with steep driveways and tight staircases. Tell us about the stairs and the path to the door when you book.

Newer subdivisions on the city’s edges. Wider streets and larger homes with basements and garages. These moves are usually about volume, so packing helps save the most time.
