The Wisconsin River splits Wausau in two. The east side runs on numbered streets and the west side on numbered avenues, so double-check your address on the quote form. A “7th Street” and a “7th Avenue” are on opposite sides of the river.

Historic Homes on the East Side

The Andrew Warren Historic District, the East Hill Residential Historic District and the Highland Park Historic District hold homes built from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. These houses often have steep front steps, narrow staircases and tall, delicate trim. Our movers use door jamb protectors, pad banisters and take apart furniture that will not make the turns.

Year-Round Overnight Parking

Wausau enforces overnight parking rules all year, not just in winter. From 2:30 AM to 6 AM, cars must park on the side of the street that matches the date, odd or even. Streets with parking on only one side are exempt. Downtown, between Forest Street and McIndoe Street and 1st Street to 6th Street, overnight street parking is not allowed at all.

Snow Emergencies

When the city declares a snow emergency, street parking is banned citywide. If one is declared for your move date, we adjust the time or the truck position with you.

Spring Weight Limits

Marathon County posts spring weight limits on county highways, and the state posts limits on some highways such as WIS 52 and 107. Rural moves outside the city in March and April can take a different route, so tell us the full address.

Getting Rid of Bulky Items Before a Wausau Move

Wausau does not haul large items with regular trash. Bulk curbside pickup goes through Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal for a fee paid to the hauler. The city also runs Clean-It-Up drop-off events in spring and fall on the east end of Chellis Street, where furniture and mattresses are accepted and Freon appliances cost $25.

The Marathon County landfill in Ringle takes loads from 7 AM to 3:30 PM. If you would rather skip the trip, our junk removal service loads and hauls items on your schedule, and it recycles electronics, which Wisconsin bans from landfills.
